Amod K. Pokhrel, Ph.D.: President (2016-2019)

Amod Pokhrel teaches (Teaching Faculty) Environmental Health Sciences in the MPH curriculum at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his MS and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. Recently, he led the clean cooking alliance funded action research, “ Maximizing the health benefits of clean cooking in urban Nepal.” For the last twelve years, his research has focused on environmental and occupational health-related to household energy generation and uses in developing countries. His research involves exposure science, energy access and climate change, and environmental epidemiology studies. His research has appeared in many high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

Arjun Banjade, Ph.D.: Executive Officer/Member Secretary (2016-2019)

Deen Bhatta: Member (2016-2019)

Deen Bhatta is a Consultant at Harvard University. Prior to this, he worked as a Staff Scientist and a member of the Advanced Technology Team (ATT) at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. He received his M.S. from Miami University of Ohio and an M.Sc. from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. Bhatta's research interests focus on drug development and delivery, nanotherapeutics, and novel powder process development. He is an expert in small molecule encapsulations and Nanoparticle Aggregate formulations and preparations via spray drying. In addition, he has extensive experience in aerosolized vaccine and pulmonary drug development.

Desh Raj Sonyok, Ph.D.: Member (2016-2019)

Desh Raj Sonyok is a civil/geotechnical engineer and is currently working in the Washington DC metro area. Dr. Sonyok is a highly motivated and accomplished civil/geotechnical engineer with 10+ years of research, teaching, and professional experience in the areas of experimental geotechnics, tunneling, instrumentation and monitoring, geo-structural analysis and design, infrastructure economics, and engineering project management. He has involved in diverse and challenging infrastructure projects ranging from residential developments to large industrial facilities as well as public sectors such as cities, municipalities, and state and federal agencies. His professional interests are tunneling, hydropower, roadway infrastructure, non-destructive testing, ground improvement, and infrastructure economics. However, he is also deeply interested in digital diaspora networks and diaspora engagement in economic development through investment, knowledge flows, technology transfer, etc. He holds a Master’s degree in geology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, a Master’s degree in civil engineering from Kyushu University, Japan, and Ph. D. degree in civil engineering with a specialization in geotechnical engineering from New Mexico State University, USA. He is also an avid martial artist with an extensive background of Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Judo, Jiujutsu, and Mixed Martial Arts. He holds a black belt in Taekwondo and a purple belt in Judo. He has received various medals on Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and Bodybuilding championships. He lives in the Washington DC metro area with his wife and son.

Jagadamba Adhikaree: Member (2016-2019)

Jagadamba Adhikaree is Director of Social Services at Kindred Healthcare in Seattle, Washington. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Washington with a focus on Medical Social work. She is a social advocate on issues related to the disadvantaged and at-risk population including children, women, and the elderly. Her expertise is in Healthcare related social welfare and entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and healthcare-related rules, and regulations. Her interests are in Global Health, Population Health, and Healthcare Policy issues.

Tarun Poudel: Spokesperson (2016-2019)

Tarun Poudel is originally from Syangja, and owns the Gajjab Home Inspection in Baltimore, MD. He is a Fully Insured and National Certified Professional Home Inspector and Licensed & Bonded Public Adjuster (Home & Business Property & Casualty Claim Specialist) in Maryland & Virginia. He did his Masters in Media Management as well as studied Building Science from Towson University. In the past, he worked as a Media person in Nepal.
